In the previous post, I discussed about the infrastructure and logistics part, while shooting on the road. The spirit was that of reduced weight and bulk while travelling, while missing very little in terms of features and flexibility. My aim is to continue in this direction in the actual photographic gear department.
There is an anecdote, about a documentary photographer -who's name I can't remember, unfortunately- being inquired if he used "available light" in one picture. His answer goes something like this: "yes, it was available light, I had a speedlite available so I used that".
Pole dancing has emerged, during the last decade or so, as a very popular fitness trend, slowly but surely washing away the stigma of night and strip club connection. A growing number of young -and not so young- women, and, in recent times, also men, choose it as their favorite fitness pursuit. Thus, it is not peculiar that, as a modern sport, "vertical dance" as it is sometimes called, is even considered as a full Olympics event.
A recent editorial shot utilizing of multiple speedlights (making heavy use of flare) , color gels and smoke, while featuring special make-up and outfits. I will post a more technical report in the near future, with more examples; for the time being, enjoy the pictures.
These are photos from a recent photoshoot at "Ekfrasi Dance School".
The school was established in 1996 and specializes -but is not limited to- Latin type dance (of which, we shall see more in the near future). It is a very warm and cozy place, while also being very practical as a shooting location.
There are some times where you don't think you have enough photographic material at your disposal, and in many cases this is true. But there is more chance you can make interesting photos with little time and resources, and without any photographically special venue at hand.
